Roles & Responsibilities:

The Respiratory Therapy Equipment Technician is responsible for cleaning/maintenance of respiratory equipment and maintenance and replenishment of respiratory therapy disposable stock as well as delivery and inventory of oxygen cylinders to the patient care units

  • Cleans, assembles and tests all respiratory care equipment.
  • Delivers respiratory therapy equipment to patient care units and/or returns all soiled reusable respiratory therapy equipment to the department for cleaning as needed.
  • Handles cleaning supplies and solutions in accordance with infection control guidelines.
  • Maintains records and statistics of equipment processed and repaired.
  • Checks and maintains inventory of all respiratory equipment and disposable supplies.
  • Follows infection control policies and practices.
  • Maintains cleaning, assembly/testing and storage areas in clean orderly fashion conducive to handling and storing clean equipment.
  • Sets up oxygen and other specialty gas cylinders with working regulators/flowmeters or other related equipment.
  • Makes rounds to the patient care units to check and replace empty oxygen cylinders.
  • Maintains established par levels of oxygen, other specialty gases, and disposable equipment.
  • Maintains oxygen storage and equipment storage areas in clean orderly fashion.
