Roles & Responsibilities:
Ensures rational drug therapy by reviewing inpatient and outpatient medication orders prior to dispensing.
Evaluates new orders against existing patient profiles and provides appropriate pharmaceutical care.
Demonstrates the ability to detect, communicate and avoid drug interactions and the administration of drugs to which the patient may be allergic.
Contacts prescribers for issue resolution.
Dispenses prescription medication to inpatients, outpatients and employees as per departmental policies.
Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy.
EXPERIENCES AND/OR SKILLS REQUIRED
Pharmacist - previous hospital experience preferred but not required.
Current New York State License and Registration as Pharmacist.
JOB HAZARDS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS
May require standing for extended periods, extensive lifting, carrying and walking, and pushing bulky and/or heavy carts (up 25 - 30 pounds). May have other related physical demands.
Normal caution required in lifting, pushing and carrying, and in the use of sharp implements as may be necessary in opening cartons or cases.
