Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Administers, provides and teaches Respiratory Care at a technician level; to help foster a safe clinical work environment and provide effective Respiratory Care, as prescribed, pursuant to the direction of a duly licensed physician

  • Acts as a resource in both clinical and technical areas of the department

  • Conforms to all applicable New York State Education Department standards for the practice of Respiratory Therapy

  • Records and processes physician’s written or verbal orders, as allowed, for all Oxygen and or Therapeutic Medical Gas Administration. Therapies may include, but not limited to Aerosol and Humidification Therapy;  Aerosolized medication ( in accordance to Pharmaceutical Service Directives); IPPB, Therapeutic Percussion and Vibration with and without other Chest Physical Therapy to include appropriate bronchopulmonary drainage; technical ventilation and weaning for infants, children and adults

  • Performs cardiopullmonary evaluations and assessments, that is the systematic collection and review of patient-specific and age specific data necessary to determine the appropriate patient’s care and treatment needs on an initial, ongoing, and continuous basis, to include possible Home Care needs.

  • Assessments will include evaluation of treatment and/or procedures outcomes (showing respect for patient needs, expectations and individual differences) as compared to physician’s goals and appropriate follow-up action. Assessments could take place in any clinical area of the hospital proper or off-site facility.

  • Maintains availability to deliver, on a timely basis, a variety of Respiratory Care Therapy procedures

  • Responsible for the assembly, sequential operation; calibration of equipment and accessories to implement associated therapeutic regimens, including but not limited to pre-op teaching to both in-patient and out-patient, as well as basic pulmonary functions studies, deep breathing and coughing (with and without splinting) exercises and incentive spiromety

  • Responds to all code calls and other types of stat or life threatening calls, to include; CPR, airway management, adult and pediatric trauma team responses, etc.

  • Administers emergency care as required


Requirements:

 
  • High School graduate or equivalent.

  • Graduate of an approved technician or therapist program leading to an NBRC’s eligibility Registry Examination process.

  • Eye-Hand coordination, ability to hear alarms, breath sounds, verbal instruction or respond to any auditory type cues in the performance of the job. 

  • Must be able to identify colors. Good communications skills and ability to follow detailed instructions.
