Job Title: Per Diem Nursing Administrator

 

Summary:

The Nursing Administrator is a registered professional nurse with progressive administrative experience. S/he supports Nurse Managers, Associate Nursing Directors and senior nursing leadership in the management of clinical units/specialty areas, fulfilling responsibilities for hospital and patient care services on assigned shifts.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Validates staff members round hourly on all patients by direct observation and patient feedback.
  • Assesses staff competency in PHR and provides consistent meaningful feedback with more focused feedback as needed.
  • Conducts rounding of all patients on shift.
  • Communicates quantitative and qualitative information regarding the patient experience and staff engagement to the staff and the interdisciplinary health care team that leads to the development and implementation of an action plan.
  • Huddles with staff at the start of each shift, identifying high-risk patients who require special attention
  • Communicates to nursing leadership concerns or issues identified during huddle and throughout shift 
  • Empowers staff to use evidence-based practices to increase understanding of patients’ perceptions of care.
  • Reviews unit progress, changes, and compliance with quality and safety metrics with clinical nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Oversees patient care delivery, throughput, staffing and processes to ensure efficient and effective operations during assigned shift.
  • Conducts regular staff meetings to ensure communication with staff about progress, changes and compliance with all hospital policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Masters in Nursing or health care related field preferred)
  • NYS RN license and current registration in NYS
  • Basic Life Support - American Heart Association preferred
  • 3-5 years minimum clinical nursing experience with some Charge Nurse/supervisory experience preferred.   Must have relevant clinical competence in area of nursing practice assigned

  • Must have relevant clinical experience in area of nursing practice assigned
  • Evidence of ability to maintain and promote interpersonal relationships, communicate appropriately to others, and work effectively and efficiently to solve problems
  • Demonstrates the ability to work in a team displaying effective communication and critical thinking
  • Ability to read, write, understand and speak English in a clear and concise manner
  • Visual, physical, auditory and cognitive ability to assess patient status
  • Physical and mental health necessary to care for acutely ill patients with a broad variety of diagnoses and behaviors on a daily basis
  • Ability to walk, stand, lift, stoop, push and respond quickly in a variety of situations and for an extended period of time
  • Manual dexterity to perform a variety of clinical procedures relevant to practice area (i.e. venipuncture, urinary catheterization, cardiopulmonary resuscitation)
  • Ability to use data entry, retrieval systems and the electronic medical record documentation system in a proficient manner
