Epilepsy Monitor Technician (ABRET tech OR at least 1 year as an EEG technician) - Part-time - Mount Sinai St. Luke's

Roles & Responsibilities:

Assists in providing neurophysiology support for the epilepsy monitoring unit

  • Performs baseline EEGs and sleep samples on all admissions
  • Hooks up patients to EMU equipment, ensure proper recordings and remove when patients are discharged
  • Archives, deletes or prunes patient files to ensure space on drive; download files from portable equipment        
  • Creates template for new admissions; add demographics to database       
  • Reports and documents equipment problems            
  • Ensures that patient wires and headwrap are intact     
  • Restarts monitoring equipment for physician review            
  • Reviews with nursing staff any patient events that occurred overnight        
  • Performs OR duties when needed                 
  • Keeps equipment in clean, operating condition; troubleshoot instrument malfunctions        
  • Ensures that video consent is signed and placed in patient's chart      
  • Checks for appropriate seizure precaution padding on patient's bed            
  • Instructs patient on need to push event button; correctly explain all symptoms
  • Ensures that push button, volume and seizure detection are working properly
  • Transfers pediatric patients to and from playroom
  • Demonstrates a courteous, customer-service oriented manner with patients, visitors and co-workers
  • Contributes to a productive, efficient work environment


  • Bachelor's degree preferred, with emphasis on physical or biological sciences.

  • Must be ABRET technician and/or at least one year experience working as an EEG technician.
