Expedites admission process for Cardiac Cath Lab patients. Schedules cath patients efficiently to allow lab to accommodate maximum number of cases per day.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Screens staff, visitors and patients; determines their needs and directs them to appropriate area
2. Answers telephone according to Division Protocol (Identifying them and area), directs calls, takes messages and responds to inquiries regarding department procedures, programs and activities
3. Uses computer database programs to collect and manipulate data
4. Uses word-processing and spreadsheet software
5. Prepares required documents and materials for departmental use
6. Uses initiative and good judgment to coordinate and handle special projects
7. Responsible for scheduling all cath procedures
8. Schedules all diagnostic caths, angioplasty, pacemaker insertions, EPS and valvuloplasty procedures
9. Responsible for admitting all walk-in patients, monitors the admission of patients transferred from other institutions
10. Contacts reservations, admitting with all necessary information to ensure bed availability and proper billing to the patient
11. Confirms appointments with all ambulatory cath and angioplasty patients
12. Advises patients of proper pre-procedure instructions, time date and location
13. Generates daily schedule of all ambulatory and in-patients scheduled for procedures and distributes to appropriate cath lab personnel
14. Generates weekend list of all in-patients
15. Distributes attending physician, fellow on-call schedule
16. Prints and processes all superbills, encounters forms to ensure proper Professional Billing for all the cath lab attending, this includes proper coding of all superbills
17. Enters all Cath Lab procedures into the Ancillary Log on a 24-hour basis to ensure proper hospital billing
18. Schedules all Cath Lab patient appointments into the IDX and Eagle 2000 scheduling system
19. Prepares patient charts the night before the scheduled appointment, which includes that all proper ancillary tests are included in chart (pathology labs, ECG)
20. Calls the patient the night before to confirm their scheduled appointment
21. Obtains appropriate referrals and pre-authorization numbers to ensure proper billing
22. Arrives patients in the IDX billing System on a daily basis
Education Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent
Experience Requirements
Three to four years secretarial and office experience. Formal secretarial training preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
