Job Title: Specialty Laboratory Technologist 

 
 
Roles & Responsibilities:

Patient specimen order entry and validation of two identifiers, plus signature, date and time. 
100% Adherence to quality standards and acceptable specimens.

 

Review, assess and validate blood product requests.

 
Processes orders from MSBI, MSDUS/PACC, NYEE and Chelsea Cancer Center.
 

Utilizes problem solving skills, technical procedures, recognize and resolves type discrepancies, ABID, blood component therapy and compatibility testing.

 

Adheres to quality control policies and procedures for manual testing and ERYTRA.

 

Informs and documents shift related information written in log and verbal communication.

 

Receives retests, enters and processes blood and blood products from outside sources.
Accurately labels and prepares blood products.

 

Accurately issues blood products to all sites within MSBI, NYEE, MSDUS, MSBICW.

 

Manages inventory to ensure availability of blood products and eliminate waste for all internal and external customers. Monitors inventory and prepares MTP Packs for remote storage at NYEE and MSDUS.

 

Consistently performs tasks as assigned completing on time or ahead of schedule. Seeks additional task to meet operational needs of the Blood Bank.

 

Promptly sign in spec, time stamp and completes manual and data entry records in Sunquest.
Recognizes and accurately processes TS and ABO/Rh confirmatory types per AABB Stds.

 

Prepares blood products and factors per patient needs. Ensures R codes for qualifying orders are complete and SOP followed. 

Orders and fill requests in Sunquest, prepares orders per PRISM.

Prioritize and process MTP orders, product selection, preparation, SQ EMRL, and followup specimen testing (TS & XM).

 

Receive specimens and fulfill orders from MSBI, MSDUS/PACC, NYEE and Chelsea Cancer Center.

Registers patients from NYEE and clinics.

Carefully reviews test results on ERYTRA, validates, exports and uploads to patient files.

 

Resolves simple and complex antibody id. Completes antigen testing and controls to confirm Id. Chooses and tests selected cells to confirm antibody resolution. 

Prepares NYBC specimens for send out.

Completes daily, weekly and annual quality control duties as assigned.

Documents problem patients, approvals, carry over of workload, problems encountered on shift, and supply or operations needs effecting work.

Verbally and accurately communicated issues and pending orders.

 

Completes all testing, documentation in log, data entry and paperwork on patient specimens and donor samples.

 

Issues units in person to clinical staff, transporters, in coolers and returns blood products when satisfactory.

 
Completes all documentation on forms, cooler log, SQ data entry and maintain records/paperwork as required.

 
Maintains BB inventory. Remove expired products from inventory and maintain inventory levels to meet patient needs.
Prepares and rotates MTP Packs via SQ and BLOOD TRACK SYSTEMS.

Requirements:

Education:
B.S. in Medical Technology or equivalent education to meet NYS DOH technologist standards.
