Roles & Responsibilities:
Under general direction, the Telephone Operator is responsible for operating the telephone console for the Mount Sinai Health System Telecommunications Department. This position supports incoming, outgoing, inter-organizational and interdepartmental calls to and from the hospitals. This position coordinates emergency code responses; assuring the proper personnel is notified of emergency conditions through the campuses which include all medical alerts, security alerts and facility alerts. A Telephone Operator provides patient and staff information in accordance to hospital policies and procedures. An Operator utilizes various computerized paging systems to process paging requests and status changes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Operate switchboard and route incoming calls to appropriate departments.
2. Initiates all emergency calls including medical alerts, security alerts and facility alerts
3. Provides specific directory information to internal and external inquiries as required in accordance with policy and procedures pertaining to the disclosure of directory information.
4. Responsible for the preparation of Daily On-Call Schedule, Code Sheet and Emergencies.
5. Utilizes computerized paging systems to page, change pager status and page-copy features.
6. Performs other related duties.
Must have a minimum of 1 year of telephone operator experience in a call center environment (health care preferred) or equivalent work and educational experience.
Other: Able to type at least 45 WPD
