Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital    

The Mount Sinai Hospital is a 1,134-bed facility with an extensive outpatient and specialty care network and is the largest hospital in the Mount Sinai Health Care System. It offers comprehensive social work services and programming to meet the myriad needs of the diverse populations we serve. Social Workers collaborate within interprofessional teams to serve patients and the larger community from both a micro and macro level including both direct care and prevention. Founded in 1907, the Department of Social Work Services at the Mount Sinai Hospital is one of the oldest hospital social work departments in the nation with over 450 licensed social workers employed across more than 65 different program/service areas. Employment in our department provides a pathway to LCSW licensure as well as access to a broad range of continuing education, professional development and extra-curricular opportunities.

 

• In this position, the social worker will follow oncology patients of differing diagnoses undergoing radiation treatment. 



• The social worker will assist and support patients and their families throughout the cancer journey. 



• The social worker will provide the following: counseling for patients, assist with communication concerns and decision-making processes, concrete support in the form of navigation of health insurance/benefits, transportation assistance, support around the financial toxicity of cancer treatment, and connection to oncology resources. 

• The social worker will provide these interventions within the radiation oncology practices and will be an integral member of the interdisciplinary team. 
• This position will also collaborate with outpatient oncology social work colleagues for overall patient care. 
• Psycho education and community planning are a significant part of the social worker’s responsibilities.  
• The social worker will be an active member of the Radiation Oncology department and participate in interdisciplinary meetings.  
• The social worker is expected to develop groups and other integrative services to benefit the patient population. 
• In addition, continuation and development of staff support and wellness programs/initiatives is highly encouraged. 

Work days: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday

• NYS LMSW or LCSW.
• Experience providing psychosocial and concrete services to adult patients with cancer.
• Ability to develop psychosocial programs.
• Skills in rapid psychosocial assessment and focused, short-term treatment.
• Excellent clinical, communication, collaborative, and organizational skills.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred. 
• LCSW preferred.
• One year in current position unless a float in Oncology.

Compensation

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $85279.91 - $97760.36 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
